Need To Know Marketing Techniques and Strategies for Landscape Businesses with Dennis Yu

In today’s world, sometimes being the best at what you do isn’t everything that matters. You might have the best landscaping business around, but if your company isn’t one of the first results on Google for your area, customers won’t even get to know how great you are - they just won’t know you at all. In this episode of Landscape Disruptors, digital marketing wizard Dennis Yu shares the basic and most important steps to optimizing your online presence.

Back to basics

With so many social media trends around, it’s easy for business owners to lose sight of what really matters: sales. As a small business, don’t get lost in crazy social media strategies, focus on Google SEO and Google My Business.

If you’ve been doing a good enough job at SEO optimization, your business should show up about 33 times a day. And 5% of those results should lead to actions, from which half should be website visits.

Where to start

If you’re feeling lost and don’t know where to start, follow these easy steps.

  1. Claim your Google My Business listing
This acts as a mini website, you want to post on it and realize that it’s probably the first thing people will see when they search for a landscaper.
  2. Make it better
Post 50 photos, 10 videos, and reply to all reviews. Cross post your Facebook and website content on it.
  3. Digital plumbing
Track what’s going on with your digital marketing, test strategies and quantify your progress. To learn more about digital analytics, Dennis offers a 20hr training course you should definitely check out.

People care about what’s familiar

No matter how impressive your social content is, people want to feel like they know you. Testimonials are key to that. Of course, make sure people leave reviews on your Google My Business. But you should also train your employees to film customers’ testimonials. It doesn’t have to be fancy, in fact it shouldn’t. Here are a few of Dennis’ tips:

  • Use a phone, film vertically. It should look organic but do teach your employees how to take a good video,
  • Before you interview a customer, start the conversation about something else, it’ll make them relaxed and more eloquent.
  • Make the customer repeat his testimonial a second time, to make sure it looks more natural.
  • Ask the customer how their experience with your company made them feel.

Recycle content

As business owners, few of us have time to focus on social media and our website. But that’s okay! The key is to recycle. If you make a Facebook post, turn it into a blog entry on your website, a post on your Google my Business and a post on Instagram. It’s that easy!
